Outsourcing: the way employment is
likely to be handled in the next millenium.
"Outsourcing" the word itself does not put a whole lot of information
through to people who are unfamiliar with the term. For the non initiate it
says: someone makes the source of something public, or hands it out to an
outsider.
" Outsourcing " - in fact - is the act of one company handing out something
to work on, to an outsider and receiving the completed work back from this
person, who does this for a set fee. This outsider , the "employee of the
future" is called a freelancer.
A "freelancer" undertakes work that
someone " outsources" and completes it in his/her own time, without a
supervisor , without having to go to work anywhere, without any obligations
whatsoever other than to complete it to a set deadline.
The system works and it has growing potential. One can make a living working
without ever having to leave the comfort of their home, something that is
extremely useful for a person who is hindered by illness or a certain
physical condition.
Other people can also take advantage of it, and they do so in ever growing
numbers. The whole act of outsourcing would've been impossible in the past
when workers had acces to work and more importantly, to the technical means
to complete it, exclusively within the confines of specific
company-building.
Since this is not the case anymore, with the widespread use of personal
computers and the infinite possibilities the internet offers through its
ever-expanding cyber-space, outsourcing and freelancing has experienced an
unprecedented boom.
Times lost with going to work coming home, workplace dead-times are
completely eliminated with the system.
The only factor still cause of some hinderence is how freelancers and
outsourcing companies get in touch and how they manage to set the terms for
their cooperation.
A free online community is the
answer to these problems. On a site like this the potential outsourcers can
select the freelancers according to their requirements, because there IS a
right person for every type of job. Freelancers can post their profiles free
of charge. It's like a virtual job market where hopefully everybody gains
and nobody looses.
Outsourcing has been going on corporate levels for a longer time and it has
proved its right to existence. There has been some debate whether
outsourcing was harming western economies in favour of developing countries
( who undertook most of the outsourced work in the past) but it was proven
that it worked both ways pumping capital back to the outsourcer.
Everything taken into consideration outsourcing and freelancing appear to
be here to stay.
